I am about to format my macbook and re-install the same OS on it. Still loyal to my old Tiger OS because it simply works! It even works much better than my new iMac (quad core) that keeps freezing either with Snow Leopard or Lion OS. It has been my pleasure working with you, dear macbook, but i’m afraid It’s time for a little brain wash.

I Promise you will become cleaner, faster, and for sure, you will remain the closest to my heart. See you later.

The Old Ulus in Ankara

I have been in Ankara for several weeks now. The first few days was spent in the Angora house hotel. A charming house in the old district that is beautifully decorated with Ottoman-style furnishings. I took some pictures for memories before moving to the modern areas.

HD Projector in da House

I like giant TV shows! wither a soccer match, a video game or a movie. The story began in the last summer, specifically prior the beginning of the world cup 2010 in South Africa. I was thinking about having HD projector, which was among the many enhancements to the media centers in the recent years.
As you know, high definition (HD) technique allows you to watch in literally tiny details! If you are watching a soccer match (which i’m diying for!) using HD projector, it means you are able to notice the faces of the many cameramen behind the goalkeeper, laughing at the nearby crowd of Barcelona shouting at Cristiano, or smelling the left up grass by a running player! It gives you absolutely stunning picture with details you would never thought you could notice oneday.

Optoma HD20

I spent some time before buying this unit. So many reviews were considered before ordering it. Now it has been 6 months, nearly 500 hours consumed since I start using it, and I am fully satisfied so far. I ordered the projector from B&H and got delivered by FedEx.

Projection screen

If you spent time and money to get the right projector, you would spend the same to choose or make your own proection screen. Bear in mind that using just any flat surface or the room’s wall as a screen, means you throw away some of your projector’s performance, especially its contrast ratio. Professional screens are rarely found in the local stores for they used to cost pretty expensive, where such are made of special chemical material that interact with the projected light and absorb its wide range of colors, including the dark black and its gradation.

I thought about doing my own screen, so I googled and found great DIY by Will O’Brien at engadget. I followed the same and VIOLA it worked like a charm.

The lamp above is just for taking the photo, i wouldn’t recommend it switched ON during any show. However, I would advice to replace the ceiling lamps with a spot lights and use it along with dimmers to control lighting, just like in a real theater. The slight lighting – called dimming light - is necessary while enjoying the show so you can find your remote controls or your cup of tea.

Long Time Lapse

I hardly remembered my access’s password to write this update. A big sign that clearly shows how much things mixed up recently. Many events just happened at a glance and it looks like a new life’s era started, especially with getting my new academic job. Now i need to rearrange many books on the shelf. If you ever had bad time with your PC’s hard drive, you would almost heard about the term “Defragment” that maintain and repair the hard drive sectors and sort things again for better accessing. Well, I think I need a biological version, if they ever made one!

Brain Defragment is a process that defrag your brain... Hmm!

At last, I ended up with a personal discovery! I have enough curiosity to try, learn and create new things, whatever it takes, and i don’t mind to spoil it once or twice. Unfortunately, whenever i had free time, I spend it on my facebook and twitter rather than blogging about previous experiments. In June 2010, I ordered and installed a home theater system along with the necessary modifications and DIY. Thanks to the World Cup 2010 which started on the same day my project completed, so you can imagine how much rush was behind my deadline. I think its great to write about and enrich the project for whoever think about making one with his own touch and improvement.

I stopped by this design while looking for something else in my archives. This very simple cover was made in the mid of 2008 while taken an elective course during my master studies in Perth. What goes inside the report was really interesting, we had to make a survey and questioned tens of Aussies and got their opinions involved.

New Layout

Wall Decal Clock

I bought this creative wall decal clock from a €5 Shop while walking around in Erlangen, Germany. I didn’t expect it could look that handsome on my living room’s wall, which was lacking such fashionable big clock. The wall decal clock consisting of: the wall decals (stickers) which stick on the wall in certain places, and the clock mechanism which hanged on the middle. That’s it! Definitely priceless.

6 Steps to Enjoy World Cup 2010

Without any doubt, FIFA World Cup is one of the most exciting and entertaining sport events ever. All football stars gather and perform their best in one place and entertain the football lovers around the globe. The occasion will take place in South Africa in 11th of June 2010. Some interested people have already got prepared for the event and some are still doing. The least preparation i can think of is getting subscribed to one of the exclusive broadcasting networks.

Here I’m suggesting 6 steps to enjoy watching World Cup 2010 and make it unforgettable experience.

1. Comfortable Sofa

Are you sitting comfortably while watching TV in general? Well, watching football matches is quite different. if you were a real football fan and you’re watching your favorite team playing, you will probably change your position often, stretch your body, or even at certain times you’re going to jump and shout! The shape and material of the sofa should gives the feeling of embracing and comfort, also the feeling of protecting the body, especially on the day when many strong matches will be played continuously.

2. HD-Ready Display

Many professional sport networks will be broadcasting optionally some matches in HD (High Definition) format which offers higher resolution of 720p and 1080p (refer to TV resolutions of 1280x720 and 1920x1080 respectively). In order to enjoy such format you should have HD display (Assuming you have HDTV receiver) which spread around in reasonable prices. Different types of TV’s complying to this format, such as LCD, Plasma & LED TV’s, in addition to HD projectors.

3. Professional Sport Network

One important step is subscribing to a specialized sport network that has the profession to fulfill football fans and make their aspirations comes true. The professional sport network doesn’t only broadcast the best picture and sound, but also obligate preparing detailed coverages before matches, including studio discussions, fans meetings and matches analysis by specialists and football stars. In Middle East, Al Jazeera Sports network owns the exclusive broadcasting rights in the area for World Cup 2010, in addition to major global football leagues.

4. HDTV Receiver

This is just essential, without HDTV receiver you will simply not be able to receive the HD signal broadcasting of the sport channel at any quality. Of course, such kind of receivers equipped with HDMI output, in addition to the ordinary video ones. Generally, few manufacturers are into this business, so you might not find HDTV receiver in the nearby electronics store. Famous HD receivers include Humax & DirecTV.

5. Surround Sound System

Picture and sound like two faces of one coin. The astonishing large high quality picture must be accompanied to a powerful surround sound system. many sport channels that broadcasting in HD also broadcast a complete surround sound format, known as Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. Number (5) refer to front left and right speakers, center, as well as rear left and right speakers, while The point (1) refers to the Subwoofer, where all the bass frequencies go. This step will make you feel like you’re actually in the stadium, but sitting on a comfortable seat, with so many crowd surrounding.

6. Lighting Control

iPad launched with few drawbacks!

Yesterday, Apple launched the sleek iPad (Wifi version) in USA, fans were camping outside New York’s Fifth Avenue Apple Store. Absolutely a great day for apple, particularly Steve Jobs, Chairman and CEO of Apple, watching how much geeks of Apple’s products love to be involved in creative devices from the first moment. Many iPad buyers says they will use it as their primary computers according to Cnet News. Though, some people argue that it still lacks some essential features to replace a laptop!

As we are very excited to have our own in Saudia, and despite its fabulous features well known earlier, there are some drawbacks in this first generation of iPad everybody should note, that includes:

- No multitasking (running two apps at the same time)

- Heavier than it looks

- Will not replace the laptop nor phone

- A fingerprint magnet

- No camera (for iChat)

- Non removable battery

- No flash support

Although, the sleek iPad is one of the most stylish multimedia and internet surfing devices and is promising for much of enjoyment and fun.

Here we go again

Besm Ellah, I can’t believe i haven’t been blogging during the recent years for what ever reasons. However, this could be the most exciting post since I launched Kan Design back in 2004.

Reminding you, “Kan” is my nickname, I picked it up in 2000. It’s just fun when having another name while using it properly within the network. I am a fan of every creative digital art and well taken photograph. Unfortunately, I couldn’t be much involved – on the personal side – in such art, that’s for study reasons. Back In 1999, I got enrolled in KSU, Electrical Engineering, and that should shorten the story of being busy at many times. In the last two years, I was doing Master study in Curtin University of Technology at Perth/Australia. Though, during the last ten years I have been involved in freelance projects and worked in some part time jobs. I am just glad to have such experiences.

So, I’m blogging again because I just love it. I like the idea of expressing my thoughts and opinions, communicate and share knowledge, and trying to motivate others which in turn will keep myself motivated. Blogging shall include issues relates to digital art, photography, CSS coding, websites design, typography, personal works and variety of other interests.
